Anna has more than 20 years of legal practice in International Law, and is a Certified Lawyer with the Bar Association of Barcelona.

After receiving her Law Degree “Cum Laude” at the age of 20, she worked in Public Sector and several EU International Cooperation projects in various countries, specializing in particular, in Central Asia. She also worked in several multinational private businesses in real estate and hospitality sectors. She focuses in bringing best international practices in every project she carries out.

Anna holds an LLM in International Human Rights Law from England, for which she received a full scholarship on merits, and also a Master’s Degree in International Law (Abogacía Internacional) from Spain.

Anna leads our Corporate and Commercial Law Practice, and specialises in business set-up, investment transactions, and immigration strategies.

Being an expat herself, she successfully runs the firm and several other businesses and works with investors from across the Globe.

Anna is fluent in English, Russian, and Spanish, and also speaks French and Catalan.

Tom Zachystal is the founder of the firm and our President and Chief Investment Officer. Prior to starting IAM, he was Vice-President Europe based in Prague, Czech Republic for another US RIA firm and worked for a major Wall Street investment firm. Tom also spent five years as an international business consultant and seven years as an engineer for oil services firm Schlumberger. During this time he worked in a dozen countries on four continents and it is his combination of international experience and investment knowledge that allows IAM to offer tailored financial solutions to expatriates and non-US investors as well as to American residents and citizens.

Tom has an MBA in Global Management from Thunderbird University in Glendale, Arizona, a BSc in Civil Engineering from the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) credential as well as the British Investment Management Certificate (IMC), and is a Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP™) practitioner. He is a past President of the San Francisco Financial Planning Association, has been managing investment portfolios on a discretionary basis since 2002, and oversees investment management and financial planning for all our expatriate clients.

​Ashley Murphy, CFP® GFP Fellow, is a tri-citizen of the USA, Australia and the UK. Ashley is the founder and Principal of Arete Wealth Strategists Australia, a fee-only financial planning and investment management firm for Australian/American expatriates in the United States and Australia.​

From 2014 - 2017, Ashley taught in the CFP programs at UC Berkeley Extension and Golden Gate University. He served as a Knowledge Circle host for the Financial Planning Association's International and Cross-Border Knowledge Circle (2017 - 2019), and is a regular conference speaker. He holds a Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning in Australia making him one of the few financial advisors qualified in multiple countries. Ashley has been quoted in the Wall Street Journal and profiled in Financial Advisor Magazine.​

Ashley lives with his wife Eliza, and daughters Elise & Jasmine in Minneapolis, MN. He enjoys cycling, reading and world travel. He is a futurist with interests in architecture, renewable energy and demographics.

John is an intensely creative professional who is energetic in the application of modern financial planning principles in the service of his clientele. Currently, John is co-located in Lisbon, Portugal, and San Francisco, California. His family lives in Lisbon, and they enjoy exploring continental Europe, meeting new friends, and learning new languages.

Matt J. Goren, PhD CFP® designs and delivers industry-leading financial planning education at scale. His approach combines lessons from his own teaching experience with best practices in adult education, artificial intelligence, and organizational psychology. He is an Investment News “40 under 40” and his courses and programs have won national awards from ThinkAdvisor, Investopedia, Yahoo! Finance, and the AFCPE.

Matt is the Chief Strategy Officer for the Danko Education, which helps thousands of current and future financial planners pass the CFP exam. Collectively, those folks go on to provide financial advice and planning to millions of people.

Matt co-founded the Global Financial Planning Institute to promote competency in the cross-border financial planning space. In addition, he is a FinServ mentor and serves with the Financial Planning Association and the Academy of Financial Services to advance financial planning education in higher education and to career changers around the world.

Previously, from 2023 to 2025, Matt ran Dalton Education as VP of Financial Planning Education at CeriFi. From 2022 to 2023, Matt worked at CFP Board as Director of Knowledge for Practice. From 2018 to 2022, he worked in a series of roles at The American College of Financial Services, culminating as the director of their CFP® and ChFC programs. From 2016 to 2018, he was a professor of personal finance at the University of Georgia. And, from 2016 to 2020, he created and produced the lighthearted personal finance show Nothing Funny About Money on NPR. Before switching careers to financial planning, Matt ran the psychology research consulting firm Beyond Berkeley and taught psychology and statistics courses at UC Berkeley and the University of Georgia.

Matt has a Ph.D. in social psychology from UC Berkeley, an MS in social psychology from the University of Georgia, and a BS in psychology with minors in statistics and history from the University of Florida.

Yulissa Zulaica is the Managing Partner at JKZ LLP. Her estate planning practice includes representing high net worth clients and cross-border issues in estate planning. She has also served as an expert witness in matters relating to international planning. In addition, Yulissa has extensive experience with probate and trust administration and litigation, and she represents clients in court on contested and uncontested matters. Yulissa is a frequent speaker on topics related to estate and probate matters, including wealth transfer strategies and tax planning.

Yulissa has contributed to various publications for Continuing Education of the Bar (CEB). She is a member of the State Bar of California and the Trusts and Estates Section of the Bar Association of San Francisco. She has been named a Northern California Super Lawyer since 2017. She earned two B.A.s from the University of California, Berkeley and her J.D. and L.L.M. in Tax from Golden Gate University.

Yulissa has been an advocate in the community for most of her life. Over the years she has dedicated her free time with many organizations, including but not limited to the Volunteer Legal Services program of the San Francisco Bar Association, the Latino Community Foundation, and the Women’s Cancer Resource Center and various political campaigns. She also served on the Boards of San Francisco La Raza Lawyers Association, Bay Area Latino Lawyers Fund and Thousand Currents.
